The sections

What to expect

The departments in the Economics Library of the University Library of Würzburg are organized according to the Regensburg Classification. This means that books are labeled with a combination of letters and numbers. The first letter indicates the main group, where "Q" stands for business and economics. The second letter divides the main subject into more specific areas, for example "Accounting". This is followed by a number that indicates the exact location of the book - in our case, "800" means that you will find the book in the Business Department Library.

Quick tip: Instead of wandering around haphazardly in the library, check the catalog to find the exact location of your book.
Still unsure? Here's an example!

"800/QC 072 B673(5)":

"800": Location in the Economics Sub-library

"Q": Main group Economics and Business

"C": Subgroup Economics

"072": Detailed classification (exact position on the shelf)

"B673": Abbreviation of the first author; here: Prof. Dr. Peter Bofinger

"(5)": Edition number of the work

Where can I keep my things?

In the Economics Library, you can bring your bag or backpack inside. If you prefer to leave your belongings outside or securely store them during breaks, there's no issue! You can conveniently store your bag in the lockers right outside the library. Simply hold your valid student ID up to the locker, and you're good to go.

How do I borrow something?

When you want to borrow something, simply grab the book from the shelf and either book it yourself at the self-service machine or directly at the counter. If 30 days aren't enough, you can easily extend them through your user account. The loan periods are the same as in the main library. You can easily return items via the counter or the machine in the main library.

Important: Unfortunately, you cannot borrow items marked in red!

Copying, printing & scanning

You can also copy, print and scan with your student ID. You will find the library's multifunction copier directly in the basement. If you don't know how to use it, don't worry, there are simple instructions for using it.

Studying at the library - Here's how it's done ✅

In the library, it's important to follow a few key rules!

Consideration for others is the top priority here! Keep your voice down, it's best to put your phone on silent so as not to disturb the peace.

Arrive on time for reserved seats or rooms to show respect to others.

And please leave your space tidy for the next visitor to feel comfortable.

That's definitely not how it's done! ❌

In the library, there are a few things that are better to avoid...

  • Friends are welcome, but saving seats? Probably not a good idea—it just causes stress.
  • Being loud and disturbing others? Well, that's just plain rude (and quite annoying).
  • Going to the library sick? It's better to stay home and not spread germs.
  • Blocking power outlets? Sure, but try not to hog them longer than necessary.
  • And as for your shoes, you really don't have to take them off.
